The Toronto Van Attack

The tragic Toronto van attack occurred in April 23, 2018 when a youthful man name Alek Minassian drove a hired van into a sidewalk in Toronto killing over 10 people and injuring several others.  The man who admitted to having been radicalized pointed that he decided to hire a van and endeavor in his mission as a means of shaking the world’s foundations (Cecco, 2019). According to the author, the accused pointed that his motive was as a result of being unable to attract women.  The tragedy had wide and devastating effects within the community of Toronto and among workers in the nearby Invesco Company who lost a colleague during the tragedy.

The modern organizational environment is complex and demanding due to the increased demand for the leaders to act in ethical ways. According to Nelson & Quick (2011) research has shown that companies that observe ethical standards lead to practical benefits such as high growth in their market value. The Toronto van attack offered an ethical dilemma particularly to the Invesco company leadership as it involved one of their employees as well as well being one of the employers within the affected community. One of the ethical dilemmas that the company leadership faced was whether it was morally justified to offer any response to the victims of the attack. In addition, it raised ethical dilemmas to the company leadership on whether it was morally right to offer assistance to the family of the company employee who was killed.

In a modern business environment where ethical behaviors are a core component, it is imperative that appropriate behaviors be displayed by involved companies. According to Dutton, Frost, Worline, Lilius & Kanov (2019) when tragic events happen, offering compassion lessens suffering and enables employees in recovering from setbacks effectively. It also increases attachment among employees and to the company. When the Toronto van attack killed one of the Invesco Company, the company president was the first to respond. The company president, Mr. Peter Intraligi responded by issuing the company’s public statement offering comfort to those affected. The president expressed sympathy and that the thoughts of the company and its stakeholders were with all those who were affected by the tragic event. Though he refused to indulge more about the company employee who died, he expressed his and the company’s support towards the deceased family.

The Toronto van attack raised great alarm given the increased radicalization and terror attacks. The occurrence of the event attracted swift response from Toronto Fire Services, senior security officials, and the police agencies of Canada. The Toronto Police Service responded swift and assisted the victims by offering first aid and moving them to nearby hospitals. They later chased and arrested the man who was responsible for the tragic event. The Toronto Fire services chief and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued separate statements contemning the incident and assuring the citizens that the incident had no connection to national security. They offered the citizens assurance that their security was well and that they could resume their daily activities without fear. The officials also issued messages of condolences and quick recovery to the victims and assured them that justice would be served to the suspect.

Given that the scale of the tragedy was described as the largest single act of murder in Canadian history, it attracted huge attention. During the tragic event, 10 people were killed and over 16 others were injured. The organizations that were actively involved in the rescue mission included the local fire services department and the police service unit. Being the first in line of response, the police officers offered first aid to the victims who had injuries and those with severe attacks. In one of the case, a police officer offered CPR to one victim who was unconscious and others who had minor and major injuries were...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................,...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................,............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... A significant tragic event (either domestic or global) that have occurred during the last 50 years

1.Starting with this provided code, add the following functionality: Replace hardcoded strings “Zero”, “One”, “Two”, “Three” in the ArrayList based on user typed input (use Scanner or JOptionPane classes). The user will be prompted for the String to be stored in the ArrayList and then hit enter. The user will be able to continue to add items to the ArrayList until they just hit enter without typing anything. Once the user does this (hits enter without typing anything), the program will display all of the elements of the ArrayList, both the index and String values, in a table. It will do this via a single loop making use of an iterator method. 2. Starting with this provided code, add the following functionality: Use a Try/Catch block so that the exception is caught and the program exits a bit more gracefully. Save this file as TryCatch.java. (Be sure to rename the Public Class accordingly.) Starting with the provided code again (without the Try/Catch block), fix the code so that
